Scuba
Diving is the most remarkable sport in the Philippines. A big bunch
of first class diving spots are all around the thousands of kilometers
of the coastline. The most of the islands have their coral reefs,
partly untouched, partly destroyed by illigal fishing practice.
Following the travel guides, they offer mainly diving courses in
the touristic centres like Boracay or Puerto Galera. But world class
diving areas you only will find around the waters of Palawan. |
Diving
in Palawan: All around Palawan there are good diving sites, the Bacuit
Archipelago and El Nido, Port
Barton, Taytay or Honda
Bay are some of them. Word class diving areas are the Tubbataha
Reef in the Sulu Sea and the bay of Coron
and Busuanga (Wreck diving). |
The
Tubbataha Reef is about
140 km (85 miles) south east of Puerto Princesa in the warm tropical
waters of the Sulu Sea. The reefs are forming two large oval atolls
each 20 to 30 km wide, inside big lagoons with shallow water. The
Tubbataha Reef is regarded as a national monument of the Philippines
and therefore strongly protected by the coast guard. In the clear
water in a deeps of down to 40 meters you find a colourful fauna and
flora in the reefs, all kind of tropical fishesin an unbelievable
quantity, the red Fire Fish as well as ......., but also huge Manta
Rays and sometimes sharks. |
Wreck
diving is the highlight of Coron
and Busuanga. In the second world war was here a battle between
the Japanese and the American fleet. Dozens of Japenese war ships,
from a battle ship down to accompanying freighters are to see in good
conditions in a deep between 10 to 40 meters. |
In
Puerto Princesa City
are several diving firms offering trips to the best of the diving
sites and are providing on diving boats qualified diving excursions
and courses from beginners up to dive masters and instructors, guided
by experienced dive masters. The most of this firms are in the hands
of expats from Europe, North America or Australia. Regarding quality
and responsability for safety specially to recommend are two diving
boats owned by Swiss citizens, located in Puerto Princesa City.
They offer diving trips to the best diving areas of Palawan, trips
round Palawan, ot the wrecks of Coron & Busuanga and specially
from April to June to the Tubbataha Reef.
